There is a disease unique to fowldyr which is known as an unstable core. This affliction is caused by a major misuse of magic which corrupts the core to an unstable state. This instability affects the fowldyr in multiple ways, including:
- Shifting core material coverage in both forms in places not normal for fowldyr - growing and reducing in size relating to how much it is impacting them.
- Mobility and breathing issues dependent on what parts of the body the unstable core covers.
- Pain in the areas where the unstable core resides, increasing as more of the body is consumed by it.
- A continuous drain of mana which depletes their vessel faster than regular fowldyr. The more arcana a fowldyr uses, the more the disease drains their energy.
There is no cure for an unstable core, but there are ways to reduce its spread and effects. Magically imbued strings, ropes and ribbons which have been blessed by The Weaver can help stall the disease by restraining its spread. Acolytes of The Weaver have been known to help those struggling with the condition by providing these essential materials.
The plant known as Dyrsbane can also be used as an alternative or in conjunction with the above. Its magic suppressant qualities can be used to help control the disease, as long as the fowldyr has access to the regulated medication and can keep up with the treatment.
Finally, the main way to reduce its effect is for a fowldyr to abstain from using their arcana. If they restrain the magic they use and focus on their reduced energy, they can reduce their struggles. Although the same can not be said for fowldyr who still foolishly use their magic, and let the disease continue to ravage their bodies.
