The Fowldyr Gods
The Artisan
The First Fowldyr
The Artisan is the first fowldyr, and its vessel is the Whorl of Tyrth. The Artisan is a creator in its purest form - a being who can create gods, place souls in vessels, and grant magic to its children.
It is thought that when a vessel has accumulated enough energy for a fowldyr to be born, the Artisan places a soul into the vessel and bestows the newborn fowldyr their first gift: their Major Arcana. The Artisan loves themes, and often grants fowldyr a Major Arcana inspired by their vessel.
L'Aigle's vessel is a peculiar clock, and so the Artisan blessed L'Aigle with the power to manipulate time.
Cairn's vessel is a stone fortress, and so the Artisan blessed Cairn with the ability to transmute stone.
Echo's vessel is a mirror, and so the Artisan blessed Echo with the ability to create a doppelgänger of herself.
The Artisan is the only known entity who can create other fowldyr. Over the many hundreds of years between the sprouting of the Whorl of Tyrth and the awakening of the first fowldyr, many people would make pilgrimages to the Whorl and leave offerings. The offerings consisted of many things - coins, trinkets, jewelry, and other precious objects. When the Artisan finally awakened, its first act was to liquify the gold of the many coins and trinkets, reshaping them into a golden gavel and golden shears. The Artisan then poured its immense store of spiritual energy into these vessels, awakening the fowldyr within: The Arbiter and the Weaver.
Blasphemy
Attempting to cut a branch from the Whorl of Tyrth is considered blasphemy. The Whorl is the vessel of a god after all, so any attempt to steal wood from the Whorl would be met with divine punishment. It is possible to have items made from whorlwood, but there is a strict code for how to obtain the wood. It can be obtained ethically if the wood was severed from the Whorl by natural means such as rockslides, lightning strikes, or other trees crashing into it and snapping branches off. Alternatively, the Artisan has be known to gift whorlwood to fowldyr acolytes.
The Arbiter
Regulation and Justice
This deity balances the amount of fowldyr in the realm of Tyrth, and prevents an overabundance of fowldyr spawning in the realm. The awakening of a fowldyr is considered to be sacred, and this god prevents Tyrthians from trying to intentionally spawn a fowldyr by focusing their energies towards an object. He is responsible for making sure the birth of fowldyr cannot be manipulated by humans.
They say that the Arbiter has other judiciary magics as well, such as the power to force a fowldyr back into their vessel and seal them inside.
The Weaver
Binding the Unbound
When a vessel is broken, the tether that connects the fowldyr to the vessel is torn. This causes a fowldyr to become mortal and lose access to their magical abilities. In this state a fowldyr can be killed. All is not lost though, there is said to be a deity that can repair the link between the vessel and the fowldyr. First, the vessel must be adequately repaired. The Weaver can then mend the tether to the vessel and restore a fowldyr's arcana and immortality. However, some vessels may be broken beyond repair. In these cases, even the Weaver cannot affix the tether back onto the vessel.
The Weaver resides on an island on Loom Lake. They say to find the Weaver, all you need to do is follow The Wefts and you will find her. It can be a long and dangerous journey for a mortal fowldyr to make their way to the Weaver to have their tether repaired, and the Weaver does not offer this service freely... she often requests rare ingredients to craft a new tether, and no one can ever predict what she will ask for. But for the gift of regaining your immortality? Surely any price is worth it.
The Weaver's magic threads are called upon during fowldyr funerals, returning a dearly departed loved one back into pure energy to return to the Whorl.
Acolytes of the Weaver distribute the Weaver's blessings across Tyrth, usually in the form of magically imbued strings, ropes, and ribbons. These enchanted materials can have all manner of uses, but are commonly used to control unstable magic.
