Lumari are large flying creatures covered in brightly coloured feathers. There are many mysteries surrounding these docile creatures… no one is really sure where they are born or how they breed. It's suspected that they are born in the ocean and spend their entire adult lives in the sky. When these creatures reach the ends of their lives, they dive back into the ocean never to be seen again.

Lumari have an interesting hybrid biology where they are both filter feeders, but also generate energy by absorbing sunlight. They can be seen skimming the surface of Tyrth's vast oceans to scoop up any tiny prey that happens to be in their wake.

During Lumari Festival they gather in the skies high above the Gyrelands in a massive flock and perform a mass courtship dance. During this gathering the Lumari glow in soft yellows and oranges, causing quite the spectacle in the night sky. Many people in Tyrth come from far and wide to attend the festival and see this incredible display. During the week leading up the festival, tents and pavilions slowly sprawl across the warm plains to sell festive foods, drinks, and wares. The most popular ware by far during this festival are the kites fashioned to look like lumari and other creatures of Tyrth. Kites are sold at the stalls, but it's also a popular practice to craft your own kite and bring it to Lumari Festival to celebrate the annual gathering of the lumari.

It is said that the lumari were named for their relationship with the sea, and their ability to glow during their courtship ritual. The words "luminous" and "marine" were combined to create the name lumari.

Can my fowldyr have a lumari as a pet?

Lumari are wild, nomadic creatures and cannot be claimed as pets, but your fowldyr is still welcome to interact with them.
